As a leader in the field of childhood creativity and arts and technology education, The Children’s Creativity Museum recognizes that it is critical to stay current with emerging trends in educational technology and 21st century learning.  Towards that end, we have been fortunate enough to partner with and help incubate several very exciting Edtech startup companies.  These companies have conducted user testing and brainstorm sessions with CCM visitors, worked with our Education department to get feedback and have become part of the CCM family!

JUNE SCHEDULE

June 16th: Learning Touch

Tired of saying “no” when their kids asked for their phones, Learning Touch started creating high quality games for toddlers that run on iPhone and iPod Touch.  These educational and entertaining games will keep kids engaged and involved.

 MAY SCHEDULE

May 19th: Stickery

Stickery is creating mobile games that are fun for kids and useful for parents.  They are redefining mobile games, from sensory stimulation, into intellectual discovery.  Join them in the innovation laba nd be a part of their user-testing process as they redefine “children’s games for a new generation of mobile-toting and digitally savvy parents“.

APRIL SCHEDULE

April 1st: Sifteo

Get your brain in gear! Sifteo cubes have all kinds of puzzles and games to exercise your spatial reasoning, word-finding, pattern-matching and other awesome cranial powers. Feel good about having fun through Intelligent Play. Use your hands to move, shake, flip, rotate and neighbor your Sifteo cubes – you’ll be entertained and inspired by Sifteo’s unique gameplay.

April 7th: FunFoo

FunFoo is developing the next generation of lovable puppet characters, imagined for the new playground of touch phones, tablets and interactive TV. The first member of the FunFoo family, Gunther, has received raving fan letters from kids (and adults!) for the debut of his very first iPhone App,”Gunther is a Star“.

April 8th and 21st: Motion Math

Motion Math creates learning games that are not only fun, but also engage children in mastering the foundations of math.  Their mission to promote children’s natural desire to learn and master new material seems to be paying off.  In the first published experimental research on iPad learning, GameDesk found that students who had played the Motion Math iPad game had significantly improved scores on standardized tests.

April 28th: Colorwheel Toys

Colorwheel Toys, a group of Stanford engineering students, is aiming to unleash the next generation of female creativity and innovative play.  In their first workshop, they will feature their prototype car creation kit. Girls ages 7-9 are invited to build, decorate and take home their creations. Participants will learn about basic circuits in the process.

March 10th and 24th: MindSnacks

MindSnacks is an educational gaming company that builds awesome touch-based games for foreign language learning and other subjects. We’ve released three #1 Educational Apps in the App Store, and Apple recently selected MindSnacks Spanish as one of the five best educational apps of 2011. We’re located in the SOMA district of San Francisco, CA, and are funded by top-tier Silicon Valley investors, including Felicis Ventures, Mitch Kapor, and 500 Startups. Founded in May of 2010, MindSnacks has been busy launching and expanding its critically acclaimed line of language learning games for touch-based iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch). Our current suite of apps includes MindSnacks Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, and Mandarin, which serve native English speakers, and MindSnacks English, which is available for speakers of Spanish, French, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Vietnamese. Fingerprint is the first mobile learning & play network for kids and their grown-ups, featuring top rated games like the Big Kid Life series. Available in the Apple App store on iOS devices.

March 3rd: Launchpad Toys

Launchpad Toys has been developing the next generation of toys, using mobile devices to bridge the gap between imaginative play and formal learning.  Their recently developed Toontastic app was named one of the “Top 10 iPad apps of 2011” by New York Times.

FEBRUARY SCHEDULE

February 11th: ZibKids and Motion Math

If money does not grow on trees where does it come from? By creating their own businesses at Zibkids.com, kids practice creativity, problem solving, working with others, writing, and math. They will find out a lot about business, and of course how money does grow.   Kids can start a fun business today at Zibkids.com, a website that gives you all the tools you need to start a business including business cards, a website and profit trackers. Sample business ideas include a Temporary Tattoo Parlor, Jewelry Design Studio, Florist, Lemonade Stand, Duct Tape Wallet Factory and more! Grown-ups get our free Elementary Entrepreneur kit.

January 28th: Invention and Entrepreneurship workshop

Experience the thrill of hands-on creation and immediately test your design to see if it flies! Tackle a real-life challenge with limited time and materials to see how quickly you can create a device that will defy gravity and carry a delicate egg to the ground safely. Learn methods from IDEO and Stanford’s d-school and how Silicon Valley entrepreneurs tackle problems. Sessions last 1 hour. Limit 10 families per session.
